Hearty meals - 味家魯肉飯 (Wèi jiā lǔròu fàn) - Taipei City Hall MRT
From the very first, I want to say this is a HIDDEN GEM in Taipei! I never expected to find a warm small 'hawker-style' restaurant in the middle of cafes behind Songshan Cultural and Creative Park. At first, I didn't know what to order but the braised pork rice (滷肉飯 Lǔ ròu fàn) looks very delicious so I ordered it. My GF doesn't really like pork but after tasted it, she likes it and ordered the same :) The auntie simple smiled at us and said "It is delicious, isn't it?" (of course in Chinese not English haha).
A BIG bowl of 滷肉飯 (Lǔ ròu fàn) is only 40NT. Looks at those chunks! I believe small bowl is not enough :) The pickles taste really combines nicely with the braised pork. If you want some extra kick then you can add the chili sauce. It's a typical Taiwanese chili sauce, a bit salty and not really spicy. They also add some small dried fishes in the chili sauce and I LOVE IT! ;) Really nice combination.

Beside the main meal above, I also orderd a bowl of 鳳梨雞湯 (Fènglí Jī tāng) at the cost of 50NT. It's really refreshing! The sourness of the pineapple (Fènglí) adds some depth to the chicken broth. The broth itself is very CHICKEN!!! They also add some bitter gourds. Just don't eat the bitter gourds if you don't like it. You shouldn't miss this bowl of happiness just because of the bitter gourds! :)

Another day, I came back again with my friends and they also enjoyed the meals. We ordered blanched vegetable (30NT) and fried tofu (豆腐 Dòufu - 10NT). I know the name of the vegetable but I'm not sure which Chinese character I should use haha so I will update the blog after I know it. These side dishes are also nice but the stars are 滷肉飯 (Lǔ ròu fàn) and 鳳梨雞湯 (Fènglí Jī tāng).
And...... (drum roll) ......... TADA! This is the map to this hidden gem ;)
ENJOY!
